PLAY WRITING CONTEST WINNERS
FIRST PLACE : TAPESTRY

In this beautifully written play, a grieving king demands that a weaver, under pain of death, create a tapestry that will provide him some comfort and consolation after the death of his beloved son. The Woman weaves six tales (threads) in her tapestry. The varied stories show the king the need for patience, wisdom, perseverence, gtrue love, beinng true to one's self, and the need for faith. With help from the wise old weaver, the grieving king is brought to see that we each weave the tapestry that is our life, and he admits that he has found meaning and, yes, even some consolation from the stories woven in the tapestry.
SECOND PLACE : HEARTS OF FIRE

This family comedy is inspired by the Chanukah Story. Life is difficult for the Jews of Jerusalem under the occupation of the Greek Syrian army, led byy General Appolonios. In order to help Judah Maccabe save her father and Judah's ward Bathsheba, Deborah, a feisty young woman, disguises herself as a boy named David. Life immmediately gets very complicated for everyone "David" interacts with. This delightful comedy serves up likeable characters and a plot filled with humor and unexpected twists.
THIRD PLACE: ANNIE'S EGGS

Annie's attempt to sell eggs fromm her beloved chickens to the King of the land goes awry when her next door neighbor, the beautiful Millicent, accompanies her and tells the kind the eggs are magical and will prolong his life. Meanwhile, the Prince is falling into love with Millicent, Annie is falling in love with the Prince, and happily eve after seems unlikely. A few clever plot twists later, Milllicent is Special Event s Coordinator to the Kine, and the Prince has moved next door to Annie so that he can get to know her better. Happily ever after is on the way!
